Fortified wines are wine mixed with spirits like brandy. ..
What Makes Wine Expensive
There are three main factors that make wine expensive: the oak, time, and terroir.
Oak barrels are used for wine fermentation and can also be used for aging wine. They impact the qualities of wine through evaporation or low level oxygen, they are expensive because only 2 barrels can be made from an 80 year old oak tree, French barrels cost twice as much as American barrels because of its high demand. Time:We all know the saying “the older the better” this assumption only applies to red wine, it is time that affects the taste of wine by reducing the acidity and tannin in a wine e.g Reserva Rioja and Barbaresco. The most coveted wines in the world age their wines in the oak and many use new. According to wine fully $1 per year is used for holding wines and storage because it takes up space and cost money.Terroir: where you plant your wines matters cause grapes do well in hilly lands and less fertile land and most wine makers because of these focus on reducing yields to produce grapes that are juicy and will make a tastier wine. $5 per bottle in additional cost as terroir becomes more scarce, the price usually jumps up by $5 cause regions are so small and in demand e.g Vosne-Romanee in Burgundy.
Most Expensive Wine
The most expensive wine are both Romanee-Conti 1945 and Screaming Eagle Cabernet Sauvignon 1992. There was only 600 bottles made of this Romanee- Conti 1945 wine which was sold to a collector in 2018 at a sale in New York estate of Robert and each of this cost $558,000. For the fact that it is a french wine, it is not a surprise since France has one of the best oak barrel in the world. Screaming Eagle Cabernet Sauvignon 1992 was sold in the charity for a whooping $500,000 at Napa Valley, the wine was available for a limited time in 1995 and would have being sold more if not that it was for charity. ..
Wine is made from a variety of grapes that are grown in different parts of the world. The grapes are dried and then crushed to make wine. Wine is expensive because it costs more to produce than a comfortable average home in the USA. However, if you like wine, it is worth spending your money on expensive wine.
