New Delhi: A businessman who is an accused in the Delhi liquor policy case will become a government witness in the case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) told a municipal court today. Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia is also accused in the case. Businessman Dinesh Arora was granted bail by a Delhi court last week and the CBI had not opposed it. Today, the CBI filed an application in a city court saying that Mr. Arora will be their witness in the case. The CBI said the businessman cooperated with the investigators and provided key information. The Delhi government had adopted a new policy for the sale of liquor in the national capital. The Lieutenant Governor red-flagged it for alleged corruption and told the CBI to look into it. The Arvind Kejriwal government scrapped the new policy and reverted to the old one. The Delhi Chief Minister said the AAP government lost thousands of crores in valuable revenue due to the Lt Governor’s intervention, which happened before the new policy could show results. “The excise policy of AAP (Aam Aadmi Party government) was supposed to generate revenue of Rs 4,000-5,000 crore, but just two days before its implementation, the LG (Lieutenant Governor) made many changes in it due to which 300- 400 stores could Their license fees and revenues did not come. That is the reason for less revenue,” Mr Kejriwal told reporters on October 31. The CBI probe into the liquor policy case began just a few months before the Gujarat elections were held. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has alleged that the centre, with the Lieutenant Governor working as a proxy, wants to damage the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) campaign in Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state.
