Ramattra is the newest tank hero coming to Overwatch 2 and the latest to be locked behind the all-battle system. Revealed during the Overwatch League Finals last Friday, the shape-shifting warlord can transform between defensive and offensive modes, but will require non-paying players to reach level 55 to unlock. Ramattra was a former military leader during the Omnic crisis (read: robot wars) who now leads the Null Sector, a rebel group in Britain fighting to liberate the Omnics and create an Omnic-led nation-state. Players are already likening the potential dynamic between him and Zenyatta, Overwatch 2’s existing Omnic monk who tries to heal relationships between humans and machines, to that of the X-Men, Magneto and Charles Xavier’s feud. If that doesn’t excite you, Ramattra is also voiced by Ramon Tikaram, the actor behind Elden Ring’s Godrick. Here’s the reveal trailer: On the gameplay side, Ramattra can be played either as a defensive tank, attacking from a distance and using a shield to protect his teammates, or as an attacker who goes full frenzy with his punches and whirling ability. Players can switch back and forth depending on the situation, making Ramattra one of Overwatch 2’s most adaptable heroes and even a complex force to be reckoned with. He won’t officially join the team until the start of Season 2 on December 6th, and according to Overwatch 2’s new free-to-play model, he won’t automatically unlock for everyone. While it will be available at the start of the season for those who purchase the $10 premium battle pass, those who stick with the freebie will need to reach level 55 to start using it. Players on the Blizzard forum and the game’s subreddit continue to complain that those who pay get access right away, while those who don’t risk losing if they don’t play enough to reach the required rank (some players estimate that reaching level 55 can take up to 50 hours spread over three weeks).
