A woman died Sunday outside on a road in North Kamloops, but it’s not yet clear how — or if freezing temperatures played a role. Police and the BC Coroner’s Office confirmed Castanet Kamloops’ death, but neither could provide additional information about what happened. According to Mounties, officers were called to the 100-block of Palm Street just after 9:30 a.m. on Sunday to assist BC Ambulance paramedics with an unresponsive woman outside. RCMP Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said the BC Coroner’s Service was also at the scene and is conducting a concurrent investigation. “The cause of death is part of the ongoing investigation, but no foul play is suspected at this time,” he said. According to Environment Canada records, the temperature between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Sunday hovered around the freezing point. The overnight low was -2C. Castanet asked a BC coroner’s office spokesman if temperature played a role in the woman’s death. “As we’re early in the process of trying to determine all the facts, I don’t have any additional information at this time,” Ryan Panton said. “The cause and manner of death are being determined by coroners at the end of their investigations, so it would be premature to speculate what role, if any, the weather may have played in this death.” Police and fire investigators are still investigating another death on the same North Shore block a week ago. On Oct. 29, a person’s body was recovered by Kamloops Fire rescue crews after a fire in a shed behind 227 Tranquille Rd.
