Mr Biden has begun one-on-one meetings with advisers about what his 2024 re-election campaign would look like. One of his former staffers recently told the Daily Telegraph that they did not believe anyone, not even his wife Jill , could prevent him from running. In addition to Mr. Biden’s age, a legislative conflict over the next two years could also doom his re-election. A win for Republicans in the House and Senate would allow them to block Biden’s “Build Back Better” agenda, which includes raising taxes on the wealthy and big corporations to pay for policies, including climate change measures and health care expansion. Mr. Biden would also be unable to continue efforts to enshrine abortion access into law, voting reform or new gun control measures. He would still have veto power over legislation passed by a Republican Congress, which he has pledged to use. If Republicans take control of the Senate, the majority leader will be Kentucky Sen. Mitch McConnell. Mr. McConnell has already vowed to block any nomination of Mr. Biden to the Supreme Court. On Monday, Biden was holding a rally in the Democratic safe state of Maryland. He was appearing with the Democratic gubernatorial candidate who was expected to easily win his race. Former Democratic presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama both came back from heavy midterm election losses to be re-elected to the White House two years later. But one Democratic insider told the Daily Telegraph there was “a lot of frustration” with Mr Biden and after the mid-terms it would be time to look for “someone from the next generation who can provide a new vision”.
