Huge Liverpool fans
As was made clear in their failed takeover more than a decade ago, both Sheikh Mohammed and his son, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, are both staunch Liverpool supporters. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, the Crown Prince of Dubai, met with Mohamed Salah and the entire Liverpool squad in 2019. He also presented the Egypt international with the Outstanding Arab Sportsman award with the Crown Prince of Dubai posting on Instagram: “Today, we honored a number of outstanding local, regional and international sports figures as part of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Creative Sports Award. We wish them continued success.” A financial downturn in Dubai during their first takeover attempt saw the Al-Maktoums walk out of talks with Tom Hicks and George Gillett, but it looks like they could be tempted back into the fold.
