ESPN’s Dan Orlovksy worked, through Monday, with Colts interim coach Jeff Saturday. Orlovsky could soon work with Saturday again, possibly. Appearing on Tuesday’s edition of The Dan Patrick Show, Orlovsky didn’t rule out joining Saturday’s coaching staff in Indianapolis. In his initial remarks on the matter, it was made clear that Monday’s horseshoe surprise was not a bolt from the blue. “My initial thought was ‘wow,’ and then — I work with Jeff two days a week and I chat with him all the time, and my brain went back to all the conversations he and I had over the last, like, six weeks,” she said. Orlovsky. “And right now I didn’t put two and two together. But as it turned out yesterday, I was like, “Oh, now it all makes sense.” You know, we’d have these very detailed conversations about what was going on in the NFL and, you know, teams that were doing things well, teams that weren’t doing things well. Design, philosophy, identity, training, all of it. And, you know, kind of when the news came out, it made a lot more sense why and how we were having these conversations.” Orlovsky, who played for the Colts in 2011, was asked Saturday if he offered the former NFL quarterback a job as the team’s quarterbacks coach. “Not immediately, no,” Orlovsky said. Then Dan Patrick asked Dan Orlovsky what that meant. “Jeff and I had conversations about coaching,” Orlowski said. “We had some really good, in-depth conversations about what coaching looks like. Who are the good guys, who are the bad guys? Level of interest in it. Where I am at the present moment. That’s when I look back and say “Aha”. You know, I think he was gathering a sense and information without revealing some of the things that were going on behind the scenes.” Orlovsky added that he and Saturday exchanged messages on Monday, that they decided to “touch base later” and that Saturday “didn’t immediately offer me anything, no.” Dan Patrick then asked if Orlovsky will be lobbying for a job on the Saturday staff. “No, I will not lobby,” Orlovsky said. “I’ve made it clear to Jeff, I want to be a coach one day. I am very interested. Honestly, as the days go by, you get more and more interested in it. I miss that part of football.” Maybe he won’t miss him for long.
